THE SECURITY SURVEY IS AN INDEPTH ON-SITE EXAMINATION OF A FACILITY AND ITS SURROUNDING PROPERTY TO DETERMINE ITS SECURITY STATUS, DEFINE THE PROTECTION NEEDED, AND MAKE RECOMMENDATIONS TO MINIMIZE CRIMINAL VICTIMIZATION.
Abstract
THIS OPERATIONAL LEVEL GUIDE PRESENTS AN EVALUATION DESIGN THAT COULD BE IMPLEMENTED BY LOCAL AGENCIES TO ASSESS THE EFFECTIVENESS AND EFFICIENCY OF A SECURITY SURVEY PROGRAM. ITS MAJOR COMPONENTS DEAL WITH THE NEED FOR AND UTILITY OF LOCAL PROJECT EVALUATION, KEY FEATURES OF SECURITY SURVEY PROGRAMS IN THE FIELD, AND A FRAMEWORK FOR SECURITY SURVEY PROGRAM EVALUATION (INCLUDING SURVEY PROGRAM ASSUMPTIONS, THE PREPARATION OF GOAL AND OBJECTIVE STATEMENTS, A CRIME PREVENTION SECURITY SURVEY DATA BASE, AND MEASUREMENT POINTS). THE APPENDIX CONTAINS A SAMPLE REQUEST FOR SERVICES FORM, A DISCUSSION OF THE SURVEY INFORMATION FILING SYSTEMS, AND A DESCRIPTION OF THE INFORMATION THAT CAN BE PLACED ON CONFIRMATION POSTCARDS.
