GUIDELINES EXPLAINING HOW THE SECURITY OFFICER FITS INTO THE OVERALL SECURITY PROGRAM OF A FACILITY ARE PROVIDED IN THIS SLIDE AND CASSETTE PROGRAM.
Abstract
THE GOAL OF A SECURITY SYSTEM IS TO STOP CRIMES AGAINST BUSINESSES. THIS PROGRAM PROVIDES SEVERAL SECURITY FUNDAMENTALS FOR EFFECTIVE SECURITY AGAINST CRIME. SECURITY MEASURES ARE CLASSIFIED TO SHOW WHETHER THEY DENY, DETER, OR DETECT CRIME. THE THREE BASIC FACTORS IN MAKING A SECURITY PLAN ARE: (1) THE SECURITY MEASURES CHOSEN MUST BE EQUAL TO THE RISKS TO WHICH THE FACILITY MAY BE EXPOSED; (2) NO ONE SECURITY MEASURE WILL PROVIDE TOTAL SECURITY; AND (3) SECURITY MUST BE THE TOTAL OF ALL SECURITY MEASURES. A HYPOTHETICAL COMPANY WHICH MANUFACTURES ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT IS USED SO THAT THE SECURITY OFFICER MAY SEE ALL ASPECTS OF THE SECURITY SYSTEM. THIS SYSTEM IS MADE UP OF PHYSICAL CONTROLS AND SECURITY OFFICERS. THE OUTSIDE PERIMETER CONSISTS OF A FENCE WITH BARBED WIRE AROUND THE TOP, A GATE, AND A GUARD POSTED AT THE GATE. INSIDE THE FACILITY, THERE ARE SEVERAL BUILDINGS WITH TELEVISION SURVEILLANCE CAMERAS LOCATED ON THE ROOFS. THERE IS EXTERIOR LIGHTING AT NIGHT, AND SEVERAL OFFICERS PATROL THE AREA AT ALL TIMES. ON THE BUILDINGS, THERE ARE STRONG LOCKS, INTERNAL INTRUSION DETECTORS, FIRE DETECTORS, ACCESS CONTROL AT ENTRANCES, AND INTERIOR GUARD PATROLS. ONE GUARD IS STATIONED AT A CONSOLE, WHERE THE SURVEILLANCE CAMERA MONITORS AND FIRE AND INTRUSION DETECTOR WARNING SWITCHES ARE LOCATED. THE SECURITY OFFICER IS INSTRUCTED TO CONSTANTLY OBSERVE AND LOOK FOR SECURITY HAZARDS, SUCH AS UNLOCKED DOORS AND OPEN WINDOWS.
