CONSIDERATION OF THE ECONOMIC FACTORS INVOLVED IN THE DESIGN AND MANAGEMENT OF A FORENSIC SCIENCE LAB, INCLUDING STAFF, OPERATING BUDGET, FACILITIES, AND EQUIPMENT.
Abstract
THE FORENSIC LABORATORY DISCUSSED IS ONE THAT IS INVOLVED ANALYSIS OF NARCOTICS AND DANGEROUS DRUGS. THIS LABORATORY, HOWEVER, COULD EASILY BE A SECTION OF A FULL-SERVICE FORENSIC LABORATORY WITH THE EQUIPMENT AND INSTRUMENTATION HAVING MUCH GREATER USE THAN ONLY FOR NARCOTIC AND DRUG ANALYSES. IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT MOST REQUIREMENTS BE SET UP ON A MODULAR BASIS AND EXAMPLES OF THESE MODULES ARE GIVEN. THE STAFF OF THE LABORATORY IS THE MOST IMPORT INGREDIENT IN THE PLANNING. A MANUAL CONTAINING STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURES IS SUGGESTED.
