This planning guide identifies the purpose, methods, and intended results of boot camps for both juvenile and adult offenders, describes boot camp evaluation and monitoring strategies, and discusses the history and current practices of model boot camp programs and strategies for designing effective boot camp and aftercare programs to maximize benefits.
Abstract
The planning guide is intended for use by policymakers, planners, and administrators involved in the design and evaluation of effective boot camp programs. Developed according to a workbook format, the planning guide indicates the design of effective boot camp programs can be challenging since each program has its own unique spin. Program design is influenced by perceived need, correctional philosophy, legislation, population focus and size, correctional agency and public policy, and politics. Boot camp planning is characterized in terms of reasons for program implementation, participants, goals and expected results, and methods for achieving intended results. 37 references and 1 figure
