Abstract
THIS MANUAL ATTEMPTS TO DEFINE 'PLANNING' AND EXPLAIN WHY IT IS DONE AND WHAT IT CONTRIBUTES TO MANAGEMENT. THE PLANNING PROCESS IS OUTLINED AND THE STEPS INVOLVED IN PLAN DEVELOPMENT ARE DESCRIBED. OTHER TOPICS DISCUSSED INCLUDE ALTERNATIVE APPROACHES TO PLANNING, METHODS OF FORMAL ORGANIZATION FOR PLANNING, AND TIME PERIODS INVOLVED IN PLANNING. SOME OF THE MOST COMMON PLANNING PROBLEMS ARE ALSO IDENTIFIED. A SELECTED READING LIST IS PROVIDED.
