VIA THE RECREATION OF THREE TYPES OF CRIMES, THIS FILM EMPHASIZES THE CREDIT CARD AS A USEFUL WEAPON IN THE CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION AND SOLUTION OF SUCH MAJOR CRIMES AS EMBEZZLEMENT, RAPE, AND MURDER.
Abstract
THE FIRST INCIDENT SHOWS HOW A STOLEN CREDIT CARD LEADS INVESTIGATORS FROM SUSPECT TO CRIME (A SUSPECT PICKED UP FOR RECKLESS DRIVING POSSESSES A STOLEN CARD WHICH LEADS TO HIS PREVIOUS CRIME OF BURGLARY AND ASSAULT.) IN THE SECOND, THE EVIDENCE LEADS FROM THE SCENE OF A HOMICIDE TO SUCCESSFUL APPREHENSION OF THE SUSPECT. THE THIRD VIGNETTE DEMONSTRATES THE SOPHISTICATED USE OF CREDIT CARDS BY ORGANIZED CRIME, IN THIS CASE TRAFFICKING IN ILLEGAL DRUGS, AND SHOWS HOW THE COOPERATION OF SEVERAL INVESTIGATORY AGENCIES (INCLUDING THE FEDERAL BUREAU OF INVESTIGATION, THE U.S. POSTAL SERVICE, AND THE MAJOR CREDIT CARD COMPANIES) LEADS TO THE SOLUTION. THE FILM ALSO EMPHASIZES THE IMPORTANCE OF PROCEDURES AN OFFICER SHOULD FOLLOW WHEN MAKING A CREDIT CARD ARREST, AND THE MAIN SOURCES OF EVIDENCE AVAILABLE IN A CASE OF CREDIT CARD FRAUD (REPORT OF THE ARRESTING OFFICER, SIGNATURES ON THE RECEIPTS, THE ORIGINAL COMPANY'S COMPLAINT, AND TESTIMONY OF WITNESSES AND OF THE ORIGINAL CARD HOLDER).
