This document presents opinions from criminal justice professionals on a variety of correctional issues.
Abstract
The articles present comparisons and contrasting views on: (1) Accreditation (it is a good value for corrections/its values should be re-examined); (2) Chain Gangs (they are right for Florida/they are cruel and unusual punishment); (3) The Death Penalty (it brings justice/it is a failure as a crime-fighting measure and its use should be reevaluated); (4) Juveniles in Adult Prisons (is a common-sense approach/is a very bad idea); (5) Megan's Law (is the right thing to do/is antidemocratic, unduly costly and not in the public good); (6) [Abolishing] Parole (saves lives and property/is dangerous and expensive); (7) Privatization (beyond a reasonable doubt/a nonsolution); (8) Religious Freedom Restoration Act (poses no threat to corrections/does more harm than good); (9) Three Strikes Law (is good criminal justice policy/is just a quick-fix solution); and (10) Victims' Rights Amendment (is a new definition of justice/is fine but is not in the US Constitution).
