COMPARISON OF INCIDENCE, MOTIVES, AND GEOGRAPHICAL DISTRIBUTION BEFORE WORLD WAR II WITH THE 25 YEARS AFTER THE WAR, AND A STATISTICAL ANALYSIS OF OFFENDER CHARACTERISTICS AND CIRCUMSTANCES OF THE OFFENSE IN 1961.
Abstract
THE INCIDENCE OF REPORTED HOMICIDES WAS FIVE TIMES GREATER, AND THE NUMBER OF SENTENCES WAS FOUR TIMES GREATER BEFORE THE WAR THAN IN THE POST-WAR PERIOD. THE PROPORTION OF CRIMES WITH ECONOMIC MOTIVES, OR IN DEFENSE OF HONOR OR SAFETY DECREASED, WHILE THE PROPORTION OF CRIMES COMMITTED BECAUSE OF EROTIC MOTIVES INCREASED. IN THE PRE-WAR PERIOD THE HIGHEST HOMICIDE RATES OCCURRED IN AREAS WITH THE LOWEST LEVEL OF INDUSTRIALIZATION AND URBANIZATION. THE PERIOD OF 1956 TO 1971 SHOWS A TREND FOR HOMICIDES TO BE MORE ASSOCIATED WITH AREAS OF HIGH URBAN AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT. STATISTICS ON HOMICIDE CASES IN 1961 COVER THE OFFENDER'S AGE, SEX, OCCUPATION, ALCOHOLISM, SOCIAL REPUTATION, GEOGRAPHICAL ORIGIN, AND CRIMINAL REOCRD. STATISTICS ALSO COVER THE TYPE OF MOTIVE AND THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL AT THE TIME OF THE OFFENSE. --IN POLISH, SUMMARY IN ENGLISH
