THE DEVELOPMENT OF CERTAIN CATEGORIES OF CRIME WHICH INTEREST BOTH POLICE AND INSURANCE COMPANIES IS EXAMINED, ALONG WITH EFFORTS AT PREVENTION.
Abstract
STATISTICS SHOW THAT THE VOLUME OF CRIMINALITY WHICH AFFECTS INSURANCE COMPANIES HAS INCREASED IN NUMEROUS COUNTRIES. THE TWO MAJOR CLASSIFICATIONS OF INFRACTIONS WHICH ARE RELATIVE TO THE INSURANCE INDUSTRY ARE CIVIL INCIDENTS, THE CONSEQUENCES OF WHICH ARE COVERED BY INSURANCE, E.G., TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS AND THEFTS OR BURGLARIES; AND SWINDLES OF WHICH INSURANCE COMPANIES ARE THE VICTIMS, SUCH AS LIFE INSURANCE FRAUD, CAR INSURANCE FRAUD, AND ARSON DISGUISED AS ACCIDENTAL FIRE. COOPERATION BETWEEN INSURANCE COMPANIES AND POLICE IS STRESSED, AS CRIME PREVENTION IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF ALL. SUGGESTIONS FOR THE PARTICIPATION OF INSURANCE COMPANIES IN THE PREVENTION OF CRIME ARE PRESENTED CONCERNING AUTOMOBILE THEFT, RESIDENTIAL AND BUSINESS BREAK-INS, THEFT OF ART TREASURES, BANK ROBBERIES, THEFT DURING THE TRANSPORT OF FUNDS, CRIMINAL ARSON, AND INSURANCE FRAUD. THE AUTHOR CONCLUDES THAT INSURANCE COMPANIES MUST ADOPT A CRIME PREVENTION POLICY TO SUPPLEMENT THEIR BUSINESS POLICIES. --IN FRENCH (DAS)
