Abstract
"Taking the Straw Man to the Ground: Arguments in Support of the Linear Use-of-Force Continuum" argues for a use-of-force continuum that is conveyed in both policy and training. "How Police Can Use Hospital Laws to Speed Processing in Hospital Emergency Departments" explains how hospital rules that guarantee timely access to emergency health care to any and all patients can be used to shorten the time that police spend in emergency rooms, thus increasing productivity and efficiency. "On Choosing the Right Operational Police Physician" focuses on the procedure for enlisting the assistance of a physician to participate in operational functions of a tactical team. "Report of the 118th Annual IACP Conference: Chicago" provides photos and narrative on the conference activities. "Intelligence-Led Policing: The Future Is Now" explains the rationale and describes the features of the new integrated information system that provides the police of Erlanger, KY, with a new integrated information system that gives police real-time views of incidents, arrests, 9-1-1 calls, and other events throughout the dispatch area. "Just a Volunteer: Supporting an Agency's Volunteer Program through Difficult Times" describes how the Bellevue Police Department (Washington State) has addressed illness and death among its volunteers. "Providing Effective Policing for Aboriginal Communities" describes how the police in Ontario, Canada, serve the largest indigenous or Aboriginal population of any Canadian Province. "The IACP and Alcatel-Lucent Present International and Domestic Police Officer of the Year Awards" contains photos and profiles of the officers who received these awards.
