Abstract
"Law Enforcement's Continuing Role in Homeland Security" presents an overview of what law enforcement agencies have done and must continue to do in implementing counterterrorism measures. "The Role of the Fusion Center in Counterterrorism Operations" presents a case study of how the Colorado Information and Analysis Center assisted in disrupting the only known al Qaeda directed plot since 9/11. "Using Principles of Community Policing to Address Online Radicalization to Violence" presents the benefits and planning steps for Internet Safety Workshops that create awareness among parents about the dangers teens face from the many online enticements that can lead to violent offenses and victimizations. "Enhancing Criminal Justice and Homeland Security Capabilities: N-DEx Fulfilling Its Vision To Support Law Enforcement" presents case studies from the work of the National Data Exchange (N-DEx), which provides law enforcement with a new investigative tool for searching, linking, analyzing, and sharing law enforcement/criminal justice information. "The Northern Virginia Military Shooting Series: Operational Validation of Geospatial Predictive Analytics" explains how geospatial predictive analytics enables the analyst to identify new locations for an emerging series of planned crimes that are not contiguous with the previous offenses. This type of analysis resulted in surveillance planning that led to the arrest of an individual who was firing shots at military facilities and locations in Northern Virginia. "Homeland Security Investigations Fight Human Trafficking with a Full Arsenal" reviews the successes and challenges of Homeland Security Investigations' efforts to counter human trafficking.
