This issue of The Police Chief contains eight primary articles on issues related to highway and traffic safety and eyewitness identification.
Abstract
The first seven articles deal primarily with highway and traffic safety. These articles are: 1) Highly Visible Traffic Enforcement Drives Truck and Bus Safety, describes the work of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration; 2) Preventing Carnage, discusses efforts to prevent traffic crashes; 3) Safety is Important when It Is Personal: Taking a Leadership role in Highway Safety, discusses Ohio's efforts to improve traffic safety; 4) Efforts Continue to Address Drugged Driving, But Is It Enough?, discusses States' efforts to address the issue of drugged driving; 5) Safety First, discusses safety improvements in patrol vehicles; 6) Cincinnati HAZARD: A Place-Based Traffic Enforcement and Violent Crime Strategy, discusses Cincinnati's efforts at reducing traffic crashes and violent crime rates; and 7) Product Feature: Transportation, examines improvements to transportation used by police departments across the country. The eighth article, Eyewitness Identification: An Update on What Chiefs Need to Know, discusses the latest research on eyewitness identification. This issue also contains five columns that touch briefly on various legislative issues related to policing.
