Abstract
This August 2013 issue of The Police Chief contains 12 primary articles dealing with law enforcement issues and an article on the 120th Annual IACP (International Association of Chiefs of Police) Conference to be held in Philadelphia, PA in October 2013. The 12 primary articles in this issue deal with the relocation of IACP headquarters, IACP's support of an initiative by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to end homelessness among veterans, changes to body armor standards both in the United States and the United Kingdom. The creation of the National Crime Agency in the United Kingdom, the European Union's and Europol's perspectives on the increased globalization of organized crime and terrorism, Taiwan's experience with combating cross-border telecommunications and Internet fraud crime. IACP efforts to educate the children of fallen police officers in Haiti, a review of old and new products that can protect officers in hostile terrain, law enforcement partnerships - now the norm rather than the exception, law enforcement's response to natural disasters, information from the U.S. Census Bureau's American Community Survey, and the hidden threat to public safety, natural resources, and the environment posed by environmental and natural resources crimes. The article on the 120th Annual IACP Conference contains information about registering for the event, a list of official events scheduled during the conference, an exhibitor list, and statements by candidates for IACP offices.
