Abstract
A BASIC OUTLINE OF HOW A COMPUTER SYSTEM OPERATES IS FIRST PROVIDED. THE MANY CLERICAL, OPERATIONAL, AND MANAGEMENT APPLICATIONS OF COMPUTER TECHNOLOGY TO LAW ENFORCEMENT ARE THEN EXAMINED. THE IMPORTANCE OF PROMPT AND ACCURATE REPORTING AND EFFICIENT RECORD KEEPING TO THE PROPER OPERATION AND USE OF A COMPUTERIZED SYSTEM IS EMPHASIZED, SINCE THE QUALITY OF INFORMATION PUT INTO THE SYSTEM WILL DETERMINE THE QUALITY OF INFORMATION THAT COMES OUT. IT IS NOTED THAT HUMAN RESOURCES ARE ALSO AN ESSENTIAL PART OF THE INFORMATION SYSTEM; THE COMPUTER MUST BE FIRMLY DIRECTED IN SUCH A WAY THAT IT PROVIDES THE KIND OF INFORMATION THAT THE POLICE NEED. THE FINAL SECTION OF THE TRAINING KEY OUTLINES SEVERAL NEW DEVELOPMENTS IN POLICE COMPUTER TECHNOLOGY, INCLUDING MOBILE TERMINALS, CAR LOCATORS, AND INTERFACED SYSTEMS. IN ADDITION TO THE LESSON, THIS KEY INCLUDES QUESTIONS ON THE LESSON, SUGGESTIONS FOR RELATED READING, AND ANSWERS TO THE TRAINING KEY QUESTIONS. BROAD DISCUSSION QUESTIONS RELATING TO THE LESSON TOPIC ARE PROVIDED AS WELL.
