THE 1978 ANNUAL STATISTICS ON CRIMES AND ATTEMPTED CRIMES AS WELL AS ON APPREHENDED OFFENDERS IN HAMBURG ARE REPORTED.
Abstract
COMPUTERIZED DATA FOLLOW THE UNIFORM FEDERAL STANDARD FOR POLICE STATISTICS AND ARE BASED ON MATERIALS GATHERED IN THE COURSE OF POLICE INVESTIGATIONS PRIOR TO PROSECUTION. IN THE FIRST SECTION OFFENSES ARE CLASSIFIED AND GIVEN IDENTIFICATION NUMBERS. THEN AN OVERVIEW OF CRIMINAL DEVELOPMENTS SHOWS A SLIGHT RISE IN CRIME OVER THE PREVIOUS YEAR (1.1 PERCENT), WITH THEFT BY FAR THE MOST COMMON OFFENSE. THE INCREASE IS LOWER THAN THE YEARLY AVERAGE (6.3 PERCENT) SINCE 1963. INFORMATION SUPPLIED ON CRIMES COVERS PROPORTION AND FREQUENCY FOR SEPARATE CRIME CATEGORIES, GEOGRAPHICAL DISTRIBUTION OF CRIMES, WEAPONS USED, TYPES OF VICTIMS (E.G., AGE), AND EXTENT OF DAMAGES. THE NUMBER OF CRIMES SOLVED INCREASED BY 1.4 PERCENT; THE GREATEST IMPROVEMENTS WERE ACHIEVED IN THE AREA OF VIOLENT CRIMES; WHILE THE SOLUTION RATE FOR THEFTS AND FORGERY DROPPED. THE NUMBER OF RECORDED OFFENDERS ROSE BY 4.09 PERCENT. EXTENSIVE STATISTICS OUTLINE THE AGE DISTRIBUTION AND RESIDENCES OF OFFENDERS, JUVENILE CRIME RATES FOR SEPARATE OFFENSES, AND CRIME RATES FOR FOREIGNERS. STATISTICAL ANALYSIS OF INDIVIDUAL CRIMES DESCRIBES THE SITUATION FOR VIOLENT CRIMES, MURDER, ROBBERY, RAPE, ASSAULT AND BATTERY, DRUG OFFENSES, DRUG DEALING OFFENSES, WHITE-COLLAR CRIME, PROPERTY CRIMES, AND NATIONAL SECURITY CRIMES. EXTENSIVE TABULAR MATERIALS ARE INCLUDED IN THE TEXT AND APPENDIXES CONTAIN TABLES ON THE AGE, SEX, AND OFFENSE DATA OF OFFENDERS; ON FOREIGN SUSPECTS; ON AGE AND SEX DISTRIBUTION OF OFFENDERS; ON DAMAGES CAUSED BY SEPARATE CRIMES; ON THE TIME PATTERNS OF CRIMES; AND ON PERCENTAGES FOR ALL SEPARATE OFFENSES. --IN GERMAN
