LEGAL LIMITATIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES INHERENT IN THE USE OF POLICE DOGS ARE DISCUSSED, AS IS THEIR POTENTIAL VALUE IN MANY FACETS OF POLICE WORK.
Abstract
A REVIEW OF GRIEVANCE-REMEDIAL LAW INDICATES THAT POLICE DEPARTMENTS SHOULD BE AWARE OF THEIR RESPONSIBILITIES UNDER TORT LAW, AND SHOULD TAKE APPROPRIATE PRECAUTIONS. FEW LIMITATIONS TO POLICE DOG USE ARE SEEN IN CRIMINAL LAW PROVISIONS. ADMINISTRATIVE-REGULATORY LAW SHOULD BE TAILORED TO THE SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS OF POLICE DOG USE.
