COMPARES POLICE TRAINING METHODS WITH OTHER PROFESSIONS' TRAINING METHODS AND EVALUATES THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THESE TRAINING METHODS IN VIEW OF THE ROLE DEFINITIONS FOR THE POLICE THAT WERE DISCUSSED IN THE PRECEDING CONFERENCE.
Abstract
THE CONFEREES AGREED THAT ALTHOUGH IT WAS IMPORTANT TO MAINTAIN OR INCREASE THE PRESENT STANDARDS, SOME FLEXIBILITY SHOULD BE INTRODUCED IN THEIR APPLICATION. THE APPLICABILITY OF PSYCHOLOGICAL TESTS IN SELECTION PROCEDURES WAS DISCUSSED. THEY ADVOCATED THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A TRAINING AND SELECTION PROCEDURES CLEARINGHOUSE. A UNIVERSITY DEGREE IN POLICE SCIENCE WAS FELT TO BE SECONDARY IN IMPORTANCE TO ON-THE-JOB TRAINING. A FRENCH LANGUAGE VERSION IS INCLUDED.
