ANALYSIS OF THE ROLE, THE FUNCTIONS, AND THE OPERATIONS OF SPECIALIZED JUVENILE POLICE UNITS.
Abstract
A JUVENILE UNIT, AS REFERRED TO IN THIS STUDY, IS A SPECIALIZED POLICE UNIT WHOSE PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY IS TO DEAL WITH DELINQUENCY PROBLEMS AND PROCESS DELINQUENCY CASES TO DISPOSITION. THE PURPOSE OF THIS STUDY IS TO EXPLORE THE NATURE OF THE JUVENILE UNIT IN ORDER TO GAIN NEW IDEAS AND PERSPECTIVES ABOUT ITS ROLE IN THE SOCIO-JUDICIAL PROCESS AND TO BETTER UNDERSTAND THE ORGANIZATION AND ADMINISTRATION OF ITS SERVICES. DRAWING FROM SUCH SOURCE MATERIALS AS ARTICLES, PAMPHLETS, BOOKS, AND INFORMATION GATHERED FROM A SURVEY, THE AUTHOR DESCRIBES THE ORGANIZATION AND ADMINISTRATION OF THE JUVENILE UNIT, THE NATURE OF ITS PROCEDURES FOR PROCESSING A JUVENILE CASE TO DISPOSITION, ITS RELATIONSHIPS TO COMMUNITY AGENCIES, AND SOME OF THE PROBLEMS AND ISSUES THAT ACCOMPANY THE ROLE OF POLICE IN DELINQUENCY PREVENTION AND CONTROL.
