Abstract
THE POLICE HAVE A RECOGNIZED BODY OF KNOWLEDGE FOR WHICH AN INSTITUTION OF HIGHER LEARNING AWARDS A DEGREE, BUT THERE ARE SEVEN OTHER REQUIREMENTS. THESE ARE HIGH, STANDARDIZED ENTRANCE QUALIFICATIONS THROUGHOUT THE PROFESSION, MINIMUM LEVELS OF ACCEPTABLE PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE, A CODE OF ETHICS ENFORCED BY A NATIONAL GOVERNING BODY, LICENSING OF MEMBERS TO PRACTICE, MOBILITY, AND PUBLIC RECOGNITION.
