Abstract
THIS HANDBOOK, AS WITH THE OTHERS OF THE POLICE PROMOTION HANDBOOK SERIES, IS BASED ON THE SYLLABUS FOR THE POLICE PROMOTION EXAMINATIONS, AND IS DESIGNED TO ENABLE A STUDENT TO ACQUIRE BOTH THE FUNDAMENTAL KNOWLEDGE, AND THE TECHNIQUE OF ANSWERING QUESTIONS NECESSARY TO PASS THE EXAMINATIONS, THE LATTER BY THE LAY-OUT OF THE TEXT AND THE EXCLUSION OF UNNECESSARY VERBIAGE AND DETAIL. THIS, THE THIRD EDITION DEALING WITH THE SUBJECT OF GENERAL POLICE DUTIES, INCORPORATES THE VERY MANY CHANGES IN LAW SINCE THE PUBLICATION OF THE PREVIOUS EDITION IN MAY 1969 (NOTABLY THE CONSOLIDATION AND AMENDMENT OF THE POLICE REGULATIONS (1971) AND AIR NAVIGATION LEGISLATION (1970) AND ALSO THE PROVISIONS OF THE GAMING ACT 1968, WHICH HAD TO BE DEALT WITH IN A SUPPLEMENT TO THE SECOND EDITION.
