After a brief study description, this codebook discusses the research procedures and presents the study instrument, variables, and coding for a data set resulting from two studies: one of police referral practices and one of social service agency practices with respect to cooperation with the police.
Abstract
The study of police referral practices was conducted in three metropolitan areas and produced data on 26,465 calls for police service at 21 police departments. Information covered the types of calls, the referrals made to social service agencies from these calls, and the pattern of citizen demands. The study of social service agencies gathered data from 103 agencies. The study classified agencies according to the extent of their cooperation with the police, the range of social services provided, and their history of service provision. Budget information was also obtained.
