THIS REPORT CONSTITUTES A COLLECTION OF OPINIONS FROM POLICE, PENITENTIARY AND PAROLE PERSONNEL, CONCERNING THEIR RESPECTIVE ROLES IN THE CANADIAN PAROLE PROCESS.
Abstract
THE REPORT IS THE RESULT OF A SERIES OF MEETINGS HELD IN THE FIVE REGIONS OF THE CANADIAN FEDERAL CORRECTIONS SERVICE. INADEQUACIES IN POLICE/CORRECTIONAL SERVICES LIAISON MECHANISMS ARE EXPLORED. POLICE CONCERN FOR THE CONFIDENTIALITY OF INFORMATION SUPPLIED TO OUTSIDE AGENCIES, AS WELL AS DEFICIENCIES WITHIN THE INTERNAL CANADIAN POLICE INFORMATION CENTER ARE ALSO COVERED. THE SYSTEMS FOR PAROLEES' MONTHLY VISITS TO THE POLICE, AND FOR POLICE REPORTS TO THE PAROLE SERVICES ARE GENERALLY FELT TO BE IMPRACTICAL. FINALLY, THE LACK OF POLICE FEEDBACK INTO THE PAROLE DECISION MAKING PROCESS IS CRITICIZED. VIEWS AND RECOMMENDATIONS ARE PRESENTED FROM EACH OF THE REGIONS. --IN FRENCH AND ENGLISH
