Abstract
Part 1 presents statistics and information on Australian and New Zealand police without interpretive or analytic comment. Topics addressed include personnel strengths, distribution, and cost; police legal powers; officer profiles; discipline and accountability; training and education; tactical units; drug enforcement; and police-minority relations. Part 2 provides a brief chronological record of significant police events in New Zealand and various Australian jurisdictions. Part 3 lists the various institutions (libraries), systems, and sources of information pertinent to police in the two countries. Twelve articles in Part 4 cover a wide range of topics in policing, with all but two of the articles providing guidance pertinent to improved police administration. Two suggest directions for police career development. Tabular data and references. For individual segments of the book, see NCJ 103726-39.
