Abstract
THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN EDUCATION AND TRAINING IS CLARIFIED FOR THE PURPOSE OF CREATING POLICE DEPARTMENTS WHICH ARE IN STEP WITH THE COMMUNITY EXPECTATIONS OF THEM. A HUMANISTIC YET PRACTICAL CURRICULUM IS PROPOSED WHICH ENDEAVORS TO DEMONSTRATE TO THE RECRUIT THE RELEVANCE OF THE FOLLOWING AREAS OF LEARNING - BEHAVIORAL AND SOCIAL SCIENCES, LEGAL EDUCATION, PRACTICAL TRAINING IN FIREARMS, AND PHYSICAL TRAINING. THE POLICE TRAINING PROGRAM MUST BE A COMPLETE EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE. THE OVERALL EFFECTIVENESS OF TRAINING MINUS THE TOTAL EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE IS EXAMINED AND CRITICIZED.
