This manual presents the study information, variables, and coding information for a study of the circumstances surrounding homicides by police officers in 57 cities between 1970 and 1979 as well as an executive summary of a report which used this data set.
Abstract
The study variables included department characteristics The study variables included department characteristics and regulations, training, disciplinary actions, firearms practice, on-duty deaths, and off-duty deaths. The cities studied were the 57 largest cities in the United States. The report concluded that each police administrator must promulgate or update directives on the use of deadly force. The table of contents and the lists of tables and appendixes for the report are included.
