THE IMPLICATIONS OF ATTITUDE SURVEY FINDINGS FOR FUTURE IMPLEMENTATION OF POLICE POLICIES, PROCEDURES, AND COMMUNITY RELATIONS EFFORTS.
Abstract
THIS REPORT EXPLAINS THE REASONING PROCESS WHICH LED TO THE SPECIFIC PROGRAMS RECOMMENDED AND INCLUDES AN OVERVIEW OF THE CURRENT STATUS OF POLICE COMMUNITY RELATIONS IN ALBUQUERQUE. THAT OVERVIEW TAKES INTO ACCOUNT POLICE EFFICIENCY, PROPORTIONAL REPRESENTATION, AND RESPONSIVENESS, AS WELL AS THE RESPONSIVENESS OF THE PUBLIC TO THE POLICE. A SERIES OF SUGGESTIONS TO COUNTER FUTURE THREATS TO PERSONAL SAFETY, IMPROVE CITIZEN SATISFACTION WITH POLICE, AND IMPROVE MORALE OF POLICE OFFICERS INCLUDE ABANDONING IMAGE-BUILDING PROGRAMS IN FAVOR OF PROGRAMS THAT INCREASE CONTACT OF STREET OFFICERS WITH CITIZENS AND UPGRADING POLICE TRAINING IN HANDLING DEMONSTRATIONS AND RIOTS.
