Abstract
ALL THE ARTICLES EMPHASIZE THE NEED FOR SHORT RANGE AND LONG RANGE PLANNING IN SOCIAL DEFENSE IN THE LIGHT OF THE CHARACTERISTICS OF A SOCIOECONOMIC MILIEU AND AN ANALYSIS OF THE CAUSE AND EFFECT DYNAMICS OF CHANGE THAT MAY CONTRIBUTE TO DEVIANT AND CRIMINAL BEHAVIOR. PLANNING FOR SOCIAL DEFENSE IN URBAN AND RURAL AREAS, A SOCIALIST SOCIETY, CENTRALLY PLANNED ECONOMIES, AND A CHANGING SOCIETY ARE DISCUSSED. PREDICTION TECHNIQUES AS A BASIS FOR SOCIAL DEFENSE POLICY IS TREATED, ALONG WITH PLANNING WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO THE JUDICIARY. SUGGESTIONS FOR A STANDARD SYSTEM FOR THE TREATMENT OF OFFENDERS IS OFFERED, AND QUANTITATIVE METHODS IN PLANNING WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO COST-BENEFIT AND SYSTEMS ANALYSIS IS INCLUDED.
