THE NEW FIELD OF POSITIVE OUTCOMES RESEARCH IS DESCRIBED BY TWO RESEARCHERS FROM THE NATIONAL CENTER FOR JUVENILE JUSTICE.
Abstract
POSITIVE OUTCOMES RESEARCH IS DEFINED AS A STUDY OF THE FACTORS WHICH HAVE LED TO SUCCESSFUL BEHAVIOR CHANGES, AND IS REFERRED TO AS THE ANTITHESIS OF RECIDIVISM RESEARCH. THE SPEAKERS REVIEW THEIR CURRENT ATTEMPTS TO DEVELOP METHODS AND HYPOTHESES FOR FURTHER STUDIES. THEY MENTION FOUR STUDIES THAT HAVE DEALT INDIRECTLY WITH THIS AREA AND EXPLAIN WHY PAST RESEARCH HAS CONCENTRATED ON NEGATIVE BEHAVIORAL CHARACTERISTICS. THE AUDIOTAPE CASSETTE IS SUITABLE FOR GENERAL AUDIENCES, AND A TABLE OF CONTENTS IS INCLUDED. NO FURTHER SUPPLEMENTARY MATERIALS ARE PROVIDED.
