Designed for California police administrators, managers, and trainers, this manual presents the regulations and procedures for certification and presentation of training courses under the California Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Program.
Abstract
Following a presentation of the sections of the California Penal Code and Government Code that relate to the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training, the manual provides the Commission regulations that have been codified in Title II, Division 2 of the California Code of Regulations. The manual's section on personnel selection and standards contains procedures on personal history investigations, physical and psychological suitability examinations, and notices of peace officer appointments and terminations. The section on training provides the procedures and training standards for the Basic Course, Advanced Officer Course, Supervisory Course, and the Management Course, each of which must be completed by police officers at some point in their careers. Three sections present procedures for training reimbursement; procedures for the award of POST professional certificates; and procedures for requesting management counseling services for improving the administration, management, or operations of a law enforcement agency. Procedures and standards for the reserve officer program are also presented, along with POST forms.
