This is a directory of programs that offer ex-prisoners assistance in such areas as employment, housing, referrals to other organizations, and alcohol and substance abuse treatment.
Abstract
Entries are arranged by States, and then by cities, and provide agency names, addresses, and telephone numbers, as well as eligibility requirements, fees, and services offered. There is background information on two of the larger organizations that assist ex-prisoners, Delancey Street Foundation and the Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Centers. Many of these programs are designed specifically for parolees. Others are willing to help anyone who needs their services, and some are State and Federal agencies whose services are available to anyone who falls within set guidelines. The information contained herein was compiled largely by means of a direct mail survey. There were two primary requirements to meet the selection criteria: (1) the agency or organization must be able to provide at least one of the services listed on the survey form; and (2) they must be willing to provide these services to parolees.
