Abstract
The Dalton Mayor and the Whitfield County Commissioners agreed to fund the project and training was provided by the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS). The Immigration Task Force became operational in September 1995. Since then: (1) 168 criminal aliens have been arrested; (2) The Task Force has assisted the narcotics unit of the Dalton Police Department and Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office on numerous search warrants involving illegal aliens; (3) More than 790 intelligence files have been created regarding illegal immigration schemes and perpetrators; (4) More than 60 educational seminars have been conducted for area businesses on immigration requirements and concerns; and (5) The Task Force assisted INS investigations, US Border Patrol and Georgia transportation authorities in highway interdictions resulting in the arrest of approximately 300 illegal aliens and the seizure of nine vehicles used to smuggle illegal aliens.
