USING THE THEORY OF TRANSFERRAL OF AGGRESSION, THE AUTHOR PROPOSES THAT MANY OF THE PROBLEMS OF POLICE-COMMUNITY RELATIONS ACTUALLY STEM FROM THE FRUSTRATIONS OF POOR POLICE INTERNAL RELATIONS.
Abstract
THE AUTHOR ARGUES THAT IF POLICE OFFICERS ARE TREATED UNFAIRLY OR INCONSIDERATELY BY THEIR FELLOW OFFICERS OR THEIR SUPERIORS, THEY WILL TAKE OUT THEIR AGGRESSIONS ON THE INNOCENT PUBLIC AT LARGE. HE MAINTAINS THAT THE QUICKEST WAY TO IMPROVE POLICE COMMUNITY RELATIONS IS TO MAKE SURE THAT ALL OFFICERS ARE TREATED WITH RESPECT, KINDNESS, AND TACT BY THEIR FELLOW OFFICERS. THREE CASE STUDIES ARE PROVIDED TO ILLUSTRATE THE NEGATIVE IMPACT THAT POOR INTERNAL RELATIONS MAY HAVE ON THE POLICEMEN'S PERFORMANCE AND ATTITUDE....DMC
