Abstract
Instruction in drug investigations first addresses case initiation, which involves selecting the target, receiving and verifying information, case preparation, and budgeting resources. Advice on undercover operations covers preparation for assignments, working undercover, drug-buy operations, conspiracy investigations, and forfeiture sanctions. Other topics addressed under drug investigations are search and seizure and the collection of evidence, drug identification, managing informants, surveillance techniques, and special enforcement problems. The latter covers such topics as marijuana cultivation, smuggling investigations, drug detection dogs, pharmaceutical diversion, the drug audit, and clandestine laboratories. Instruction on the administration of the drug enforcement unit encompasses theories of management, agency organization and structure, personnel management, and drug enforcement field training. Chapter suggested readings, glossary, subject index.
