These 9 papers use the 12 stages of mediation described in Moore's 1986 volume on the mediation process as a framework for detailed analyses of interventions at a particular stage of mediation or to deal with a specific problem.
Abstract
Individual papers discuss ways to handle transitions between the stages of mediation and between diverse negotiation procedures and the role of timing in mediation interventions and stages of dispute settlement. Additional papers explain adaptations of mediator interventions when a dispute involves multiple parties and present a theoretical model for choosing a dispute resolution forum and approach. Further papers focus on conciliation processes that can deal with emotional barriers to conflict resolution, ways of dealing with bargainers who operate with duplicity or bad faith, the use of a systems approach rather than a sequential and linear approach in generating options, the role of negotiator and mediator power, and the use of the caucus technique.
