DATA WAS COLLECTED ON A GROUP OF PAROLEES RELEASED IN CALIFORNIA IN ORDER TO DEVELOP FORMULAS FOR PREDICTING POTENTIAL PAROLE FAILURES.
Abstract
FROM 1964 THROUGH 1966, A GROUP OF PAROLEES WAS STUDIED BY THE RESEARCHER, AND PAROLE VIOLATIONS WERE NOTED. THE PAROLEES WERE GIVEN THE CALIFORNIA PSYCHOLOGICAL INVENTORY AND ADJECTIVE CHECK LIST TESTS. THIS INFORMATION WAS SUPPLEMENTED BY VARIOUS BACKGROUND ITEMS TAKEN FROM EACH SUBJECT'S RECORD. AFTER RANDOMLY SPLITTING THE POPULATION INTO SUBGROUPS FOR CROSS VALIDATION PURPOSES, THE RESEARCHER DEVELOPED STATISTICAL FORMULAS TO PREDICT PAROLE OUTCOMES. SUBPOPULATION BASED FORMULAS CATEGORIZED PERSONS WITHIN THEM WITH FROM 80 TO 90 PER CENT ACCURACY. PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED IN CROSS VALIDATION EFFORTS AND THE UTILITY OF THE FORMULAS ARE DISCUSSED. THE DOCUMENT CONTAINS TABLES AND STATISTICAL MATERIAL. BIBLIOGRAPHY.
