These 11 commissioned essays examine the development and application of research on the methods of offender classification and criminality prediction and the use of these methods in criminal justice decisionmaking.
Abstract
The articles address such topics as the methodology of prediction and classification; their role in program evaluation research; their application in guidelines for bail, sentencing, and parole; and their use in security and custody decisions in prisons and jails. The papers also examine the legal and ethical considerations that surround the applications of these methods. Additional essays discuss the classification of offenders according to the risk of future crimes and for the selection of appropriate treatment and control measures.
