THE ARTICLE REPORTS THE RESULTS OF RESEARCH ON A PRERELEASE PROGRAM, WHICH BEGAN IN 1965 IN ONE OF CALIFORNIA'S INSTITUTIONS, AS AN INSTRUCTIONAL PROGRAM TO PREPARE OFFENDERS FOR REENTRY INTO THEIR COMMUNITIES.
Abstract
TABLES ARE INCLUDED IN THE PAPER THAT SYNTHESIZE RESPONSES TO QUESTIONNAIRES THAT WERE GIVEN TO INMATES PARTICIPATING IN THE PROGRAM BOTH BEFORE AND AFTER THE COURSES WERE GIVEN. THE FINDINGS REVEALED THAT MOTIVATION WAS THE PRIME SOURCE OF DIFFICULTY, IN THAT MANY OF THE INMATES WERE ILL-PREPARED FOR A LEARNING EXPERIENCE. FURTHER, THE COURSES THAT WERE DESIGNED TO AID INMATES IN PREPARING FOR LIFE OUTSIDE THE INSTITUTION WERE TOO GENERAL, DID NOT MEET PARTICULAR NEEDS, AND WERE OF UNEVEN QUALITY....KAP
