Information and data are presented for the Rhode Island Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (RI PDMP), which is administered by the state's Department of Health.
Abstract

The PDMP's email address is provided, along with website addresses for its home page, enrollment, and queries. Contact information is presented for the PDMP Project Manager and the Chief Administrative Officer. Statistics for 2017 cover the state population (1,061,712), DEA registered prescribers (6,593), and DEA registered dispensers (202). The PDMP available reports are listed. Funding for the PDMP in 2018 was provided by a CDC grant and a SAMHSA grant. Staff numbers for 2018 are for the following job categories: operational (1), technical (5), analytical (2), and "other" (3). Key dates noted for the PDMP are for enabling legislation (1978), becoming operational (1979), online access (July 1, 2017) and electronic reporting (2006). Source information on Rhode Island laws and regulations relevant to PDMP policies and procedures are listed. Reporting frequency for monitored drugs is one business day, with no requirement for reporting if no monitored drugs were prescribed or dispensed. Monitored drugs are those in schedules II, III, and IV. Naloxone administering and dispensing information is also required. The PDMP does not have the authority to add or remove drugs from monitoring. PDMP miscellaneous capabilities and policies are listed. Enrollment in the PDMP is required for prescribers and dispensers of monitored drugs, but use of the PDMP is required only for prescribers. Law enforcement personnel can query PDMP data on a patient only if there is an active investigation of the patient or a subpoena or search warrant for the data. The data retention policy requires that all data be retained without any purging. No training is required or available for enrolling in or using the PDMP.
