This article describes security systems for two Boston institutions: the Faneuil Hall Marketplace and the Harvard University art museums.
Abstract
The Faneuil Hall Marketplace encompasses more than 150 shops, 23 restaurants, and three historic buildings, all of which accommodate approximately 12 million visitors a year. Twenty-four-hour security patrols cover the area, and alarms are used on building parameters. Security responsibilities include property and tenants. Security focuses on common areas. Tenants are responsible for security and safety within their premises. Security officers carry service batons and mace and serve as intermediaries between tenants and the Boston police. Some of the security problems addressed by security officers are drunkenness, pickpocketing, shoplifting, and crowd control. Security goals for the three Harvard University museums are to prevent art loss from theft or damage, including climate control and fire protection.
