Laser detection of latent fingerprints is discussed with emphasis on the pretreatment procedures.
Abstract
The authors enumerate both the general features of laser fingerprint detection and the operational aspects of examination of physical evidence for laser detection. A literature review is organized by pretreatment approaches. Earlier studies (pre-1981) which are cited address the demonstration of the viability of laser fingerprint detection. Post-1981 articles are concerned with difficult surface examination, compatibility with traditional fingerprint development methods, and implementation of laser methods by law enforcement agencies. 8 figures, 141 references.
