This report describes the prevention programs of the United States Department of Health and Human Services, based on the framework contained in Healthy People 2000: National Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Objectives.
Abstract
The prevention agenda for improvements in public health rests on three categories of preventive action: health promotion, encompassing both healthy behaviors and risk reduction; health protection, addressing screening as well as the physical and social environment; and preventive services, including immunizations, counseling, and other clinical prevention services. Individual sections highlight model prevention programs for minorities, the health status of persons in all people, trends in mortality rates and the causes of death, the prevention activities of Federal agencies, and prevention expenditures by the Department of Health and Human Services. Figures, tables, and agency addresses and telephone numbers
