Abstract
THE PREVENTION OF ENOUGH CRIME AND DELINQUENCY TO PERMIT CONTROL OF WHAT CANNOT BE PREVENTED IS EMPHASIZED. TOPICS DISCUSSED INCLUDE DEGREES AND SEQUENCES OF LAW VIOLATION, THE CITIZEN AND THE COMMUNITY IN CRIME PREVENTION, AND THE PREVENTIVE ROLE OF SCHOOLS AND SOCIAL AGENCIES. ALSO CONSIDERED ARE THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM AND THE DETERRENCE OF CRIME, OFFENDER DIVERSION FROM THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM, AND STRATEGIC PREVENTION ACTIVITIES OF POLICE. FINALLY, THE COURT PROCESS AND THE JUVENILE COURT, AND THE ROLE OF CORRECTIONS IN PREVENTING RECIDIVISM ARE REVIEWED.
