This collection of specialized bibliographies (with a total of more than 200 citations) focuses on the prevention of crime and delinquency.
Abstract
It categorizes the literature as follows: (1) general aspects of prevention, including offenders and victims as targets and rural crime and implications for prevention; (2) major rationales for prevention (i.e., crime control perspective and deterrence; target hardening; geographic and physical design implications; treatment and its applications; and community vitalization, development, and involvement); (3) the institutionalized sectors for preventive action -- the police, courts, schools, and social service agencies; (4) settings for preventive activities (the streets, the family and residence, businesses and industries, and public facilities where offenses are likely to occur); and (5) the assessment of preventive activities. The bibliographies emphasize literature for the 1970's and early 1980's.
