This manual presents lesson plans and classroom activities that teach elementary and secondary school students to recognize when they are threatened with sexual abuse, to understand their rights, to distinguish between 'good' and 'bad' touching, and to know whom to tell when they have been sexually abused.
Abstract
The first three chapters give background information on sexual abuse, including when, where, how, and why it happens. Legal and medical terminology pertaining to sexual abuse is defined. Lesson plans are next presented, divided into groups for kindergarten through 6th grade and 7th grade through 12th grade. The lesson plans and student activities have been reviewed and tested for content and grade level appropriateness in three cities in Alaska. A resource section lists sources for speakers and assistance in Alaska, sources for teaching aids, audiovisuals, suggested reading for teachers and parents, and a teacher evaluation form.
