A SERIES OF INTERDISCIPLINARY ESSAYS ANALYZING CONDITIONS AND FACTORS CONDUCIVE TO CRIMINAL BEHAVIOR FOCUS ON CRIME PREVENTION EFFORTS.
Abstract
A METHOD OF CRIME PREVENTION BY GENERAL AVOIDANCE OF NEGATIVE LEARNING AND BY EARLY RECOGNITION OF YOUNG INDIVIDUALS AT RISK IS DISCUSSED AS WELL AS VARIOUS MODES OF TREATMENT FOR ENDANGERED OR ALREADY DAMAGED INDIVIDUALS. THE DEVELOPMENT AND EXTENT OF JUVENILE DELINQUENCY IN A WEST GERMAN CITY IS OUTLINED ON THE BASIS OF CRIMINAL STATISTICS OF THE POLICE IN WUPPERTAL. POSSIBLE USE OF NEW LAWS TO PROTECT YOUTHS IS SUGGESTED AND THE RELATIONSHIP OF THE LAWS TO PUBLIC ASSISTANCE FOR YOUNG PEOPLE IS EXPLORED. THE SIGNIFICANCE OF JUVENILE DELINQUENCY IN THE UNITED STATES IS REVIEWED, WITH A LIST OF SPECIALIZED TERMS USED IN JUVENILE LAW AND A DISCUSSION OF SCHOOL-RELATED STRATEGIES FOR PREVENTION, COURT PREVENTIVE MEASURES, FAMILY AND COMMUNITY PROGRAMS, AND YOUTH SERVICES. NORMALITY, CATEGORIES OF DEVIANCE, AND PROBLEMS INVOLVED IN DETERMINING THE GOALS OF THERAPEUTIC PROGRAMS ARE ANALYZED THEORETICALLY. CRIME PREVENTION THROUGH EXPANSION OF SOCIAL SERVICES AND IMPROVEMENT OF NEIGHBORHOOD ENVIRONMENTS, COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION, AND MODIFICATIONS IN THE NATIONAL HEALTH INSURANCE SYSTEM IS RECOMMENDED. CONNECTIONS BETWEEN PARTICULAR SOCIAL CLASSES AND PSYCHOLOGICAL DISTURBANCES UNDERLYING CRIMINAL BEHAVIOR ARE INVESTIGATED. FINALLY, THE HISTORICAL AND PRESENT SIGNIFICANCE OF MENTAL HEALTH IN CRIME PREVENTION IS EXAMINED, AND CURRENT RELEVANT MENTAL HEALTH RESEARCH AREAS ARE REVIEWED. NOTES, BIBLIOGRAPHIES, AND SOME TABLES ARE FURNISHED FOR EACH ESSAY. --IN GERMAN. (KMD)
