Abstract
Prison Rehabilitative Industries and Diversified Enterprises, Inc. (PRIDE) offers industrial job training, prerelease employability instruction, postrelease job placement, and transitional support for inmates in Florida State prisons and county jails. PRIDE's $85 million in net sales for fiscal year 1995 resulted in a $1.5 million increase in the earnings available for inmate training and support over 1994. A total of $1.8 million was paid for inmate compensation. The program trained 4,648 inmates; 3,144 received 10,808 certificates for accomplishing the requirements of the industrial job training processes. Florida organizations have certified 72 percent of PRIDE's training businesses and operations. A 4-year tracking study revealed that 15.2 percent of the 4,710 PRIDE inmate workers released into the community have returned to prison. Recidivism was 11.1 percent for those working for PRIDE for 6 months or more. Photographs, figures, and tables
