Abstract
This book is a guide and introduction to mental disorders assisting in the classifying of disorders, understanding the ramifications, and assisting teachers and families in providing a supportive environment for students and others suffering from various emotional problems and disorders. The book is arranged in broad categories, following the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders IV-Text Revision (DSM-IV-TR) the official diagnostic manual and standard references for medical professionals, which include: (1) disorders diagnosed in infancy, childhood, or adolescence; (2) delirium, dementia, amnestic, and cognitive disorders; (3) substance-related disorders; (4) schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders; (5) mood disorders; (6) anxiety disorders; (7) somatoform disorders; (8) factitious disorders; (9) dissociative disorders; (10) sexual and gender disorders; (11) eating disorders; (12) sleep disorders; (13) impulse-control disorders; (14) adjustment disorders; and (15) personality disorders. It is a useful tool describing disorders and treatments and identifying sources for classroom, library, and home use. Each edition of this guide-book represents a consensus of experts as to where the science and the therapeutics of mental illness/disorders are at the time.
