Abstract
FOLLOWING A HISTORY OF POLICE WORK AND THE SHIFT IN FOCUS FROM APPREHENSION TO PREVENTION WHICH HAS CHARACTERIZED THE YEARS SINCE THE MID-1960'S, THIS COURSE MANUAL PRESENTS 11 ASPECTS OF CRIME PREVENTION; (1) INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL SECURITY FOR INDUSTRIAL, COMMERCIAL, AND RETAIL FIRMS; (2) ELECTRONIC ALARMS AND OTHER SECURITY DEVICES; (3) THE SPECIAL PROBLEMS OF RETAIL SECURITY INCLUDING FRAUDULENT CHECKS, SHOPLIFTING, AND CREDIT CARD MISUSE; (4) ARMED ROBBERY PREVENTION AND EMPLOYEE TRAINING FOR ROBBERY; (5) SECURITY LIGHTING; (6) SAFES, WITH A SECURITY CHECKLIST FOR SAFE PROTECTION; (7) LOCKS AND OTHER MECHANICAL SECURITY DEVICES; (8) CONDUCTING THE SECURITY SURVEY, INCLUDING A COPY OF THE TEXAS CRIME PREVENTION INSTITUTE SURVEY OUTLINE; (9) RAPE PREVENTION; (10) JUVENILE CRIME PREVENTION, AND (11) ORGANIZING COMMUNITY-BASED PROGRAMS TO PROTECT AGAINST PERSONAL AND PROPERTY CRIMES.
