THEORETICAL DISCUSSION OF THE APPLICATION OF ECONOMIC ANALYSIS TO CRIMINAL ACTIVITY, PARTICULARLY OF THE ORGANIZED VARIETY.
Abstract
THE AUTHOR BEGINS BY CONSIDERING ORGANIZED CRIME GROUPS AS BUSINESS FIRMS AND DISCUSSES THEIR BEHAVIOR IN THE CRIMINAL MARKET. THE AGGREGATE EFFECTS OF CRIME AND PUNISHMENT ARE EXAMINED ALONG WITH SOME GENERAL POLICIES FOR CRIME CONTROL MEASURES. THE PRESENT STATE OF STATISTICS ON CRIME IS ANALYZED AND SOME SUGGESTIONS ARE MADE FOR IMPROVEMENT SO THAT THEY COULD BE OF MORE USE. QUANTITATIVE REASONING RATHER THAN ACTUAL MATHEMATICS IS UTILIZED. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)
