OBSERVATIONS ABOUT THE UNDERLYING PRINCIPLES GUIDING THE INTAKE DECISIONS IN A TREATMENT- ORIENTED, RESIDENTIAL FACILITY FOR THE CARE OF DELINQUENT BOYS.
Abstract
THE SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT DOCTRINE IS THAT EVERY CHILD IS AUTOMATICALLY ACCEPTED, UNLESS THERE IS CONVINCING EVIDENCE THAT A PARTICULAR CHILD SHOULD NOT BE ADMITTED. A SCEPTICAL ATTITUDE IS URGED WHEN REVIEWING INFORMATION WHICH MIGHT PRECLUDE A CHILD'S ADMISSION TO THE FACILITY. CONFLICT MIGHT DEVELOP BETWEEN CONCERN FOR THE NEEDS AND RIGHTS OF AN INDIVIDUAL AND THE NEEDS OF THE GROUP WHEN THAT INDIVIDUAL IS A POTENTIAL SOURCE OF HARM TO OTHERS. IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT EACH CASE BE REVIEWED INDIVIDUALLY.
